S’endormir sur le quai
S’endormir sur le quai is an installation that is part of Noyades, an ongoing series in which Camille Duchaine develops works through the relationship between objects and fabricated structures connected to water, whether found or created. In this project, the artist transforms the small gallery into a place that seems to belong to another world, her own, where time and space unfold differently. Within the installation, the public is simultaneously on the shore and underwater, both today and yesterday.
Drawing inspiration from a child’s perceptions, the work blurs memory through a mixture of misunderstanding and imagination, giving rise to a visual autofiction based on recollections whose contours are already uncertain. This autofiction unfolds in a space where a peaceful atmosphere coexists with objects suggestive of captivity and fragments of text that contribute to the construction of a fragmented narrative while creating connections between the various elements of the installation. These juxtapositions extend the artist’s recent research into the tension that can exist between captivity and safety.
About the artist
Camille Duchaine
Camille Duchaine is an emerging artist who lives and works in Quebec City. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Visual and Media Arts at Université Laval in 2025 and was the recipient of the Inter/Le Lieu and Tomber dans l’Œil awards that same year. Her work has been exhibited at Lieu, centre en arts actuels (Traversée, 2026), Charpente des fauves (Marginal, 2025), Centre Alyne-Lebel (Boîtes lumineuses, 2024), Galerie des arts visuels (Banc d’essai, 2024), and the Salle d’exposition du bureau de la vie étudiante (Voies Navigables, 2024, and Labyrinthe : l’expérience des méandres, a satellite event of Manif d’art 11, 2024). She has also participated in several performance events, including the 2023 Listening Biennial, volet Alexandre St-Onge ; LEGS Lézarts in 2024 (Montreal); LEGS in 2025 (Quebec City); as well as the 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions of the Soirées estudiantines at Lieu, centre en art actuel (Quebec City).
